Job Purpose:
Responsible for leading or participating in individual audit assignments adhering to GIA's quality standards as outlined in Internal Audit Manual. Plays critical role in all phases the individual audit assignments viz. assignment planning, fieldwork and testing, discussion of the observations with the audit clients, obtaining corrective action plans, preparing draft and final audit report and monitoring rectification of audit observations through effective follow-up. As Assignment In Charge for less complex audit assignments leading & managing audit team members to ensure high quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
Supporting Head of Operations Audit in routine consultation services / special reviews relating to Banking Operations & Head Office functions such as (i) Investigations, independent review of (ii) System Change Requests, (iii) Product Programs, (iv) Policies and (v) Standard Operating Procedures. Backup for Head of Operations Audit role.
Key Accountabilities :
Policies & Procedures:
Recommends improvements to Audit procedures covering the operational audit activity so that all relevant
procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers
Audit Coverage:
- Plays a role in development of the operational assignment audit plan and identify activities for audit
coverage, evaluate their significance and assess the degree of risk and plan audit coverage to mitigate risk.
- Leads less complex / small scale audits (e.g. Spot Audits, Limited Scope Reviews, etc).
Audit programs:
- Develop and document audit programs that achieve audit objectives.
- Conducting audits in line with audit steps laid down by the assigned manager.
- Checking compliance with bank's policies and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations
including that of Central bank.
Audit Reports:
- Prepares timely and complete draft reports on operational activity to Assignment Manager, highlighting
areas of concern and proposing remedial steps where appropriate, and proposing urgent action when needed.
- Ensure that audit files prepared as per audit manual using all formats.
- Ensure that working papers contain relevant and sufficient evidence to support all audit observations in report.
- Discuss audit observations and recommendations with assigned manager.
- Participates in exist meetings with audit clients.
Follow Up:
- Follows up on audit findings implemented in order to improve internal controls.
Fraud Investigation:
- Investigates identified fraudulent activities, carries out necessary investigations and report findings to
Assignment Manager in order to take appropriate corrective actions
Review of Product Programs/Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Forms/Documents/System Change
Requests:
- Assist in reviewing SOPs/Forms/Documents pertaining to existing and/or newly established units/processes
within the Bank and/or its subsidiaries.
- Following up with concerned stakeholders and attend meeting to discuss SOP and related control
procedures.
- Ensure that all required controls are incorporated into SOP before signing off the document
Updates and Research:
- Undertakes regular research and updates on new audit techniques and ensure that findings are assessed
and presented at round table meetings for awareness, and potential implementation.
- Reviews of new professional standards within the Accounting and Audit fields.
Quality Assurance & Improvement Program:
- Participate in the Quality File Review (i.e. ongoing review of Working Papers) for the audits conducted by
other departments within Internal Audit.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor: Accounting
Other Qualifications (If Any) : Professional qualifications such as CIA, CBA, CPA etc. is an advantage
Minimum Experience : 6 years' experience in Internal, External or Banking Audit, preferably within an Islamic Banking environment.
Computers/ Systems / Software Skills : MS Office - Intermediate
